Hall of Fame

Assalamualaikum....

Here I am. Sekejap ada sekejap tadeee..I'm quite stress, inside out. Could not really concentrate in classes due to other workloads. Alhamdulillah, the Form 3s done with their English yesterday. I see them smiling and look confident. That could be a good sign! We did our part, now lets hope for the best...

Yesterday, I also witnessed the 'magic of words'. After a writing session with the fifth formers, I decided to proceed the class with a vocabulary exercise. I planned to give them a song lyric (with blanks).Their job is to listen to the song and fill in the blanks with the correct words. So here is the song's lyric.

Yeah, You could be the greatest
You can be the best
You can be the king kong banging on your chest

You could beat the world
You could beat the war
You could talk to God, go banging on his door

You can throw your hands up
You can beat the clock
You can move a mountain
You can break rocks
You can be a master
Don't wait for luck
Dedicate yourself and you can find yourself

Chorus
Standing in the hall of fame
And the world's gonna know your name
Cause you burn with the brightest flame
And the world's gonna know your name
And you'll be on the walls of the hall of fame

You could go the distance
You could run the mile
You could walk straight through hell with a smile

You could be the hero
You could get the gold
Breaking all the records they thought never could be broke

Do it for your people
Do it for your pride
Never gonna know if you never even try

Do it for your country
Do it for your name
Cause there's gonna be a day

(Chorus)

Be a champion (4x)
On the walls of the hall of fame

Be studentsbe teachers
Be politicians, be preachers

Be believers, be leaders
Be astronauts, be champions, be true seekers

Be studentsbe teachers
Be politicians, be preachers

Be believers, be leaders
Be astronauts, be champions

(Chorus)

….
….
….
….
…..
Standing in the hall of fame

Then,I've explained to them,line-by-line just like the way I'm teaching poem. I interpret the lyric from a students point of view. While I'm explaining, I get too emotional and start to relate the whole lyrics with sacrifices made by the parents and teachers.

I mentioned something like this 'You can't actually pay your parent with money, it won't be enough. They're not hungry for your money, their hungry to see you succeed'. Some of them shred into tears and me too (almost)..

I don't actually expect that kind of reaction from them. After the class they look motivated and lets hope the spirit will last until the end of the year.I'm expecting something 'big' from this year SPM candidates. This song tells us, Anything is Possible. Now, lets listen to the song and appreciate the lyric.

THE 'LOWS'

Assalamualaikum..

Almost 5 months since I last updated my blog. So far this year, there are 'highs' and 'lows'. Today I'm gonna write about the 'lows'.

PMR 2012

  • There is no improvement as expected
  • I'm lost, because all of us, had given our hearts and souls, in and off the PnP.
  • Frustrating.. due to the reason that all of things I've discussed a night before exam, came out in the exam.
  • But thank you to the students who always tried their best in improving their English :)

WORKLOAD

  • This year, I've spent my time more on meetingssss. Sukan tu, sukan ni, bla bla bla..
  • I can't concentrate on my teaching
  • Missed lots of my classes.
  • And the school administration doesn't make my job easier either. Thank you.

SPM 2012

  • This is the biggest disappointment of all.
  • I feel bad
  • The night after the result released, I cant sleep. Thinking about what went wrong.
  • My colleague and I did whatever we could to help the students. For the weaker class, we had extra classes on Friday + extra classes on the night.
  • We spent our time working on the essay because it is the vital part on English 1119.

  • I shed into tears when I recalled 'those faces'.
  • Muka-muka yang xberapa pandai, tapi sanggup jumpa saya, luangkan masa until midnight sebab nak lulus. I feel pity for them. I let them down.
  • I still can recall some of them came out form the exam hall and said "Cikgu ! Saya xpenah tulih karangan macam ni. Syok ja tulih. Terima kasih banyak-banyak. Ni karangan terbaik dalam hidup saya". That particular day, I thought i've succeeded. But I'm not.

  • I don't even bother to see to school's overall result because of the disappointment.
  • More tears go through my cheeks when I've text my colleague later that night.
  • Our efforts are fruitless. We felt bad because English is the worst of all.
  • We felt bad because it could be our faults. I feel ashamed of myself.
  • Right until today, I'm still speechless and DISAPPOINTED.

P/s: It takes time for me to settle down. But I wont give up. Never!  :) I want to say thank you to all of my students who did their best in our classes and exam. I know you've tried. I'm proud of you.
